A shop manual, not ideal for the amateur.

If you're looking for an automotive repair manual in the spirit of a Chilton's or a Haynes manual, this is not the book for you. This is strictly a shop service manual, which means that it lists work flows, parts numbers, and tool numbers that are useful to experienced mechanics who have ALL the tools. Unfortunately, this appears to be the only repair manual that exists for the Quattro version of 84-87 Audi 4000 S and CS models. If you own one of the models covered in other manuals (non-quattro versions) you may want to buy that in addition to, or instead of this manual. Otherwise, as a shop repair manual, this book gets the job done and is complete.

The only repair manual you should want.

This is the repair manual you want if you are going to be working on the car yourself. It gives details on the repair that help you plan and perform the task. If you don't know how to check your oil or inspect your brakes then a Chilton or Haynes is more your speed. Those manuals can't offer the detail that a Bentley Factory Repair Manual offers. The Bentley Service Manuals are a different story though and fortunately this is not one. The Chilton and Haynes manuals try to lump a bunch of different models into one repair write up. The Bentley Factory Manual is going to cover all different set-ups seperately. I would say if you can generally take things apart and put them back together on your own then you need a Bentley Repair Manual. If you are not that mechanically inclined then maybe a Haynes or Chilton would be more your speed.
I would also recommend that you have this repair manual even if you do not work on cars yourself because it could sure help you out of a jam if you breakdown out of town and Bubba has never even seen an Audi before. Keep it in your car!
I would have given the manual 5 stars but I think there are a few small areas missing and a few quirks to the organisation which were fixed in Bentley's that were written after this one. My background is Automotive Technician and Mechanical Engineer.
