It's an honor to have my novel, THE HORSEMEN, included in this fine collection of western writing. I've known these writers for many years and have greatly admired their work. THE HORSEMAN is the first of a series that I thoroughly enjoyed writing partly because I've owned and trained horses (not as fast as as fine as those ones by the Ballou family) and love them.I'm delighted that this collection of BEST OF THE AMERICAN WEST is enjoying such a wide and enthusiastic audience of readers. Good solid writing and stories of those who lived through tougher times, our true heros of the old west.

There simply are not enough westerns being written these days, and since my BF loves them, I bought Western Best Sellers Box Set and left my Kindle with him for two weeks. He admitted to having already read two of the novels, The Horsemen by Gary McCarthy, and also Nemesis by L.J. Martin, but below is his take on this boxed set.
All novels were good old fashioned westerns, written without tons of obscenities (son of a bitch, most often), and other extreme torture and violence that is found in today's more cosmopolitan attempts at this genre. His favorite of the four he had not read were: Texas Glory by Robert Vaughn, which covered familiar Texas territory written within a great story. His next one was Stillwater Smith by Frank Roderus, which should teach everyone that stepping back from fighting does not make one a yellow belly. Without giving away the ending, this one shows how those quiet people uneager to fight are the best heros around.
A final note, as a western reader, he has read John Legg and intends to find more of his work as well at Chet Cunningham's, and all others.
A great bang for the buck, this six pack is filled with good writing and good old fashion storytelling that is hopefully making a rebound into modern society.

Top Notch Tales of the Old West

This is an outstanding collection of well-written stories (Sheriff’s Blood, Stillwater Smith, The Horseman, Wades-War, Texas Glory, and Nemesis) set in a period of our history where horses and trains provided the main modes of transportation and most battles were won or lost by how well you could handle a gun. The dialogue in all the stories seemed authentic to that period with the western drawls that helped develop memorable characters. The stories have heroes, villains, saloons, a little romance, and sometimes justice is served in gunfights.
In the last story, Nemesis (a town in the old west), Tag McBain, using an alias, enters the town to revenge the murder of his sister, her husband, and two nieces. He spots the bank being robbed and takes care of the situation. Not long after that he is appointed Marshal, but in his way of handling the law he becomes judge, jury and executor.
All the authors are very talented storytellers, and I enjoyed all their stories. I highly recommend this collection of great western tales.

Excellent buy! This is a fantastic collection of 6 stories written by contemporary Western authors and it's a treat. I hadn't read westerners in a while and wasn't sure what to expect, until this collection was recommended to me. I was surprised by the quality of the stories, the well developed characters and plots, and couldn't put it down! It's hard to say which one I liked the best, as all of them kept me reading and it was as if I was watching old John Wayne movies! Two thumbs up for this collection and I highly recommend all the stories for those who love a good western tale.
